IBC REACHES THE FINAL FRONTIER
SETS NEW ATTENDANCE RECORD

These are the voyages of the Star Ship IBC.

Captain’s Log Star Date: 09.28.00 to 09.30.00

Mission: IBC: The Next Generation was the theme for this year’s convention. It is vital to community banking we pass on the heritage and culture of community banking to the next generation. We must remain strong and united.

The IBC boldly went where no Colorado banking trade association has gone before is right! More than 575 people accepted the mission to attend this year’s convention representing over 60 banks and even more locations. An all time high 70 exhibitors and 40 sponsors joined the mission.

124 golfers conquered the wrath of the River Golf Course at Elk Run. A record 26 holes were sponsored as well as a putting contest. Seven teams were awarded prize money. The opening reception was quite a hit.

Friday’s mission started early with our Debit Card dawn buster session followed by the incredible Dave Enger. His presentation on Oxymoron 2000 – Banks and Sales Cultures? or Credit Scoring & Relationship Banking? was out-of-sight and left the attendees begging for more. Attendees then had the choice of attending two out of the four breakout sessions. Topics included: Exploring Deposit Growth Strategies/Core Funding, Interest Rate Risk, Outlook for the Economy, and Discover New Products and Techniques for Funding your Balance Sheet. The Recognition Luncheon was standing room only as Jerry Bryant presented the Crown Service Award to Pine River Valley Bank, Bayfield, Colorado. Jim Sower, president of the bank, was joined by some of his employees and board members to accept the award. The bank also received $500. Brenda May was the recipient of a $300 outstanding academic scholarship to the Western States School of Banking. After lunch, Ken Davis, took center stage to brought the luncheon to a side splitting close. Who knew bankers could laugh so much and so hard! Friday’s afternoon educational programs concluded with IBC’s Treknology Summit and Directors seminar. Industry experts were on hand to field questions and give insight as to what will happen in the next millenium. The reception was festive, dinner was delightful and The Lawmen entertained us with their humor and melodies.

IBC Starfleet Command took charge on Saturday with our packed district and annual business meetings. The new officers of the IBC were announced. Jerry Bryant, President, First National Bank of Yuma, Chairman, passed the gavel to Doug McClure, President, Rocky Mountain Bank & Trust who will serve as President, and Tom Havens, President, Gunnison Bank & Trust was unanimously elected to serve as President-Elect. The annual resolutions were unanimously approved. The IBC welcomes to the board Jerry Jones, President, Farmers State Bank of Fort Morgan to fill a vacancy left by Dale Roberts, Executive Vice President, Berthoud National Bank. Dave Wade, President, Front Range Bank and Keith Varner, President, First National Bank in Walsenburg were elected to serve an additional three year term. The IBC gives a light year of thanks to Dick Easterly, now Chairman Emeritus, and Dale Roberts for their outstanding service and dedication to the IBC. Bob Gulledge President-elect of the ICBA was on hand to present an update of events happening at the national level. His presentation was enlightening as well as informative. Terry Saber, Saber & Associates, concluded the educational portion of our convention with a topic near and dear to every bankers heart: Strategic Positioning of Your People Portfolio for 2000 and Beyond. We were very fortunate to be joined by Senator and Mrs. Wayne Allard for lunch. The cocktail reception started off the evening as we made our way to the final frontier. Several exhibitors gave away prizes and the dinner was extraordinary. Wendell Cummings was the lucky winner of the COINPAC/Government Relations Raffle. David Booker and the Swingtet had the bankers tapping their toes and dancing down the Milky Way.

May you and your bank live long and prosper.
