The opening reception was quite a hit.
Friday began early with our Debit Card dawn buster session presented by Stephen Cook, Certergy E-Banking Solutions followed by Chris Bauer, Certegy E-Banking Solutions. Chris jumped to the aid of the IBC as Jeff Gerrish, Gerrish & McCreary was unable to attend due to Tuesday events. Her presentation on Enthusiasm was uplifting started the convention on the right foot. Thanks a bunch Chris! Attendees then had the choice of attending two out of three breakout sessions. Topics included: Liquidity and Asset/Liability Management presented by Kelly Malone, Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka; The Secrets to Overwhelming Your Competition presented by John Cooper, Alpine Bank and Michael Chandler, Chandler Marketing; and Colorado Merger and Acquisition Market Today presented by Wes Brown, The Wallach Company. While all this was going on for the bankers, the spouses and guests had a fabulous time at a cooking demonstration. The Recognition Luncheon was standing room only. The following Colorado legislators were recognized for their outstanding commitment to supporting community bank issues during the 2001 legislative session: Representative Carl Miller, Legislator of the Year, Representative Al White, Freshman of the Year, Senator Jack Taylor and Representative Tambor Williams, Spirit of Independence Award. Doug McClure presented the Crown Service Award to First National Bank of Yuma, Yuma, Colorado. Jerry Bryant, president of the bank, was joined by some of his employees and board members to accept the award. The bank also received $500. Kim Davison was the recipient of a $500 outstanding academic scholarship to the Western States School of Banking. After lunch, Bob Wells, World Humor Organization and Chicken Lips Theatre, took center stage to brought the luncheon to a side splitting close. We all will remember “My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean.” Friday’s afternoon educational programs concluded the Technology Summit and Ethics seminar. The reception was festive, dinner was delightful and The Royals had the dance floor packed from start to finish.
Saturday commended with our packed district and annual business meetings. The new officers of the IBC were announced. Doug McClure, President, Rocky Mountain Bank & Trust, Florence Chairman, passed the gavel to Tom Havens, President, Gunnison Bank & Trust who will serve as President, and Bill Mitchell, Executive Vice President, Heritage Bank was unanimously elected to serve as President-Elect. The annual resolutions were unanimously approved. The IBC welcomes to the board Bill Betts, Executive Vice President, Fremont National Bank to fill a vacancy left by Keith Varner, President, First National Bank of Walsenburg. Mike Bass, President, First National Bank of Hugo, Jim Sower, President, Pine River Valley Bank and Hereford Percy, President, FirstBank North were elected to serve an additional three-year term. The IBC thanks to Jerry Bryant, now Chairman Emeritus, for his outstanding service and dedication to the IBC. Unfortunately, ICBA representatives Ken Guenther and Sal Marranca were unable to attend. Several exhibitors gave away prizes and the dinner was extraordinary. Lina Gilbert was the lucky winner of the COINPAC/Government Relations Raffle. Chicken Lips Comedy Theatre provided levity and had the bankers laughing the evening away.
Thank you all for attending this year’s convention. Mark your calendars for Thursday – Saturday, September 12 - 14, 2002 for next year’s convention and may we all keep the victims and families of the terrorists acts in our thoughts and prayers.
