Scholarship Program
The
IBC Education Foundation will award at least two (2) $1,000 one-year
scholarships, which will be applied to the cost of tuition, fees and
books at a Colorado public or private
university or college, junior or community college or vocation/trade
school. In 2007 the IBCEF was able to
award 6
scholarships (a total of $6,000 was awarded). Payment
will be made directly to the school following
enrollment and
after classes have begun. This is a statewide scholarship contest.
Eligibility
Students must be a full-time high school senior attending high school
in Colorado.
Students must
have applied to and will attend a Colorado
public or private university or college, junior or community college or
vocational/trade school. The student or his/her parent(s) or
guardian(s) may
not be an employee of the IBC Education Foundation, Independent Bankers
of
Colorado, Independent Bankers Network or IBC-Insurance.
In
addition, due to the
far reaching
possible ramifications of Amendment
41, Ethics
in Government, that amended Colorado’s
Constitution, if the student or
his/her parent(s) work for any city, state or county office, you may
not be eligible for this scholarship
contest if the Colorado General
Assembly does not pass
clarifying legislation. Before applying, please consult
with your
trusted advisor on this issue.
Requirements
A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Student
must attend a Colorado
public or private university or college, junior or community college or
vocational/trade school.
Either the student or parent(s)/guardian(s) have a banking relationship
at an IBC member bank or branch for at least
six months. To find out if your bank is
an IBC member call 303/832-2000.
Application
must be complete, typed and signed by a representative at your bank.
Student must answer the essay question.
Deadline
for submission to your bank
is Friday, March 14, 2008.

IBC Education Foundation’s 13th Annual Spring High
School Senior Scholarship Fundraiser and Customer Appreciation Golf
Tournament
The IBC Education Foundation (IBCEF) and
Colorado’s independent community banks announced the recipients of
their 13th Annual Scholarship Competition in May 2008. This year
the IBCEF received more than 40 scholarship applications!
Requirements to apply for a scholarship were: A cumulative GPA of
3.0 or higher; attend a public or private Colorado university, college,
junior college, community college, vocational/trade school; have a
banking relationship at an IBC member bank and completion of an
application and essay question. With the overwhelming turnout for
the student scholarship fundraiser golf tournament and the generosity
of our sponsors (listed below), the IBCEF was able to award a total of
$6,000 in scholarships this year. Scholarships were awarded
in two categories: Bank customers and bank employee or child of a
bank employee. Each recipient will receive a one time $1,000
scholarship. Recipients in the bank customer category were:
Michelle Schafer,
sponsored by First National Bank of
Kirk, graduated from Idalia High School, and plans to attend
either Northeastern Junior College or Colorado State University. Whitney Gilliland, sponsored by Legacy Bank, graduated from Wiley
High School and plans to attend Lamar Community College. Sean Moritzky, sponsored by FirstBank of Lakewood, completed
high school via home schooling and plans to attend Regis
University. Recipients in the bank employee or child of a bank
employee category are: Garrett
Schlegel, sponsored by The
First National Bank of Las Animas La Junta, graduated from Swink
High School and plans to attend Colorado State University. Zach Bond, sponsored by Advantage Bank graduated from
University High School and plans to attend Regis University. Kathryne Reed, sponsored by FirstBank of Colorado, graduated
from Green Mountain High School and plans to attend the University of
Colorado-Boulder.
More than 85 golfers hit the links on Monday, May 19 for our 13th
Annual IBCEF Spring Customer Appreciation Golf Tournament and Student
Scholarship Fundraiser at Heritage Todd Creek Golf Club. Thank
you to all our sponsors. Competition in the tournament was
stiff! The champion’s only won by one stroke.

Requirements for scholarship are: A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher;
attend a public or private Colorado university, college, junior
college, community college, vocational/trade school; have a banking
relationship at an IBC member bank and completion of an application and
essay question.

recipients are chosen by an independent scholarship selection committee. Members of the IBCEF committee are: Larry
Martin, Banking Strategies; Heidi
Shipp, Fifth Third Bank Processing Solutions; and Mary Marchun, The
Capstone Group.
2005 IBC EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED
The IBC Education Foundation (IBCEF) and Colorado’s independent
community banks announce the recipients of their Tenth Annual
Scholarship Competition. The IBCEF received more than 70 applications.
Requirements for scholarship are: A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher;
attend a public or private Colorado university, college, junior
college, community college, vocational/trade school; have a banking
relationship at an IBC member bank and completion of an application and
essay question.
Scholarships are awarded in two categories: Bank customers and bank
employees’ children. Recipients in the bank customer category are: Jennifer
Francis, a senior at Evergreen High School, will be awarded a
one-time $1,250 scholarship. Ms. Francis plans to attend Colorado
School of Mines and was sponsored by Evergreen National Bank. Garrett
Markus, a senior at Crowley County High School will be awarded a
one-time $750 scholarship. Mr. Markus plans to attend Colorado State
University and was sponsored by First National Bank of Las Animas.
Katelyn Starkebaum a senior at Haxtun High School will
also receive a one-time $1,050 scholarship. Ms. Starkebaum will attend
Colorado State University and was sponsored by First National Bank
of Haxtun.
Recipients in the bank employees’ child category are: Joshua Meier,
a senior at Yuma High School, will be awarded a one-time $1,250
scholarship. Mr. Meier will attend Regis University and was sponsored
by Colorado Community Bank Yuma. Kyle Sanderson, a senior at
Rifle High School will be awarded a one-time $1,050 scholarship. Mr.
Sanderson plans to attend Colorado School of Mines and was sponsored by
Alpine Bank. Holly May, a senior at Lamar High
School will also receive a one-time $750 scholarship. Ms. May plans to
attend Lamar Community College was sponsored by Colorado East Bank
& Trust.
Scholarship recipients are chosen by an independent scholarship
selection committee. Members of the IBCEF committee are: Dan Baker,
President, Total Bank Technology; Larry Martin, President,
Banking Strategies; Kathy Smith, Account Executive, Pinnacle
Financial Strategies; and Mary Marchun, Partner, The Capstone
Group.
The IBC Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides
financial services education and training and supports public
educational resources and opportunities. The IBC is a member trade
association dedicated to the enhancement and preservation of the unique
American system of independent banking. IBC is a trade association,
