Small Business and Microenteprise Development-Small
Business Administration (SBA) Small Business Development Centers
(SBDC).
The SBA administers the SBDC program to provide management assistance
to current and prospective small business owners. There are nearly
1,000 SBDCs nationwide that provide a wide variety of information and
guidance.
Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) is a
nonprofit association dedicated to encouraging the formation, growth,
and success of small business nationwide through counseling and mentor
programs. SCORE provides small business counseling and training under a
grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Minority Business Development Agency-Department of
Commerce. The Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development
Agency is an entrepreneurially focused organization, committed to
empowering minority business enterprises for the purpose of wealth
creation in minority communities. The agency fosters financial
education through a variety of resources and programs.
The Association for Enterprise Opportunity is a national
association of organizations committed to microenterprise development
and maintains a clearinghouse of microrenterprise development programs.
The Aspen Institute produces information and encourages
dialogue on innovative community-based strategies for employment and
income generation in disadvantaged communities. It sponsors a number of
microenterprise initiatives including promoting best practices,
developing performance measures, and linking microentrpreneurs to new
markets.
